I'll update this as the day progresses at PyCon 2010. ————— 1743: Lightning talks. Some sophomoric obscene humor is on display in one of the talks. 1655: Scaling your Python Application on EC2. Reddit's move to EC2. They run 16 Python applications per server, two per core. 256 virtual CPUs, 432 GB of RAM. Problems … Continue reading PyCon 2010, day 1

PyCon Tutorials, day 1, Liveblog
I'll update this as the day progresses at PyCon 2010. ————— 1623: We're done. This tutorial was at a more beginner level than I had expected. It was probably just right for some, maybe even a majority, of the audience. But some topics (e.g., the "base" template and settings files, how to change your site's … Continue reading PyCon Tutorials, day 1, Liveblog
PyCon 2010 arrival
I'm settled in my room for PyCon 2010. Tomorrow's the first day of tutorials. Just had a great dinner, albeit by myself, and now I'll do some Django work for a couple hours before turning in. I've got some Merlot within, so, my coding skills might be stunted.
PyCon 2010!
Tuesday, I leave for a week of PyCon 2010 in Atlanta. I'll liveblog and tweet (using the #pycon hashtag) from the conference. I expect to gravitate toward talks about the innards-of-Python, packaging, and deployment tools & techniques. We'll see.
Post and Comment Ratings
I've enabled ratings for posts and comments. Have at it. That is all.

Prediction: Ballmer out within a year
I'll stick my neck out again with a Microsoft prediction. CEO Steve Ballmer will be out of a job within the next 12 months. The major reason, whether stated or not, will be Microsoft's staggering incompetence in adapting to (much less anticipating) changes in the online and real-time computing landscape. It may not be all … Continue reading Prediction: Ballmer out within a year
A review of BumpTop, the 3D desktop
I've used the BumpTop 3-D desktop (Mac version) for a day. It's a promising start, but not worth using, or paying for. BumpTop's visual metaphor is a 3-D desktop surrounded by four walls. It works with OS X's Spaces, so each Space can be a 3-D desktop. This means each virtual desktop now has five … Continue reading A review of BumpTop, the 3D desktop
BumpTop – 3D Desktop
I'm trying a new 3D desktop, for Macs. It's called BumpTop. I've only played with it a bit, but it's interesting enough to keep it for the next couple of days, and see how I like it. I already see one visual oddity... The BumpTop desktop is 3-D, but open application windows are 2-D.
