PyCon 2008 day three

Client-side Python, application installation woes.  Mozilla and Python, PyXPCOM.  OLPC deployment.  Core Python contains, under the hood.  Getting ready for tomorrow's sprints. I think I'm the oldest participant in the Django sprint.

PyCon 2008 day two

State machines created using decorators.  Roll your own persistence.  CouchDB.  Shove.  Using Django Admin as the app for Intranet applications.  py.test, which is a new unit test framework that looks excellent.  py.execnet. I intended to work on TrenchMice code in the evening, but I crashed.

PyCon 2008 day one

Python 3000.    T-shirts.  Everything you wanted to know about new import but were afraid to ask.  References, Python and .NET, the state of Django, and JK-M announces the Django Software Foundation.  REST.

PyCon 2008 tutorial day

I met Jacob Kaplan-Moss, shook his hand, and chatted. I may never again wash my right hand. Not only has David Beazley written the best Python reference, but he's also very friendly in person and a great presenter. My head nearly exploded in the SQLAlchemy tutorial. My laptop was a desktop-replacement in 2002, but I … Continue reading PyCon 2008 tutorial day

PyCon 2008 is here

Tomorrow through March 19, I'll be at PyCon 2008.  I'm looking forward to the tutorials, conference, and the Django sprint.  I'll blog about it if inspiration strikes.

Djangosearch.com

I also signed up for some of their newsletters. I got … Continue reading Forbes.com is a spammer

The forward journey

A question asked from time to time in every career is, "Where do I go from here?" I'm confronting it now. The view to the rear I've been blessed. I started working in CPU hardware design, with the good fortune to work for "the" company at the high point of its existence.  I then worked … Continue reading The forward journey

CIO Python article

Martin Aspeli published an article in CIO magazine titled, "You Used Python to Write WHAT?" It's a good introduction for the non-technical manager to Python in the enterprise.  And the article's comments (so far) are good reading, too.  If you're looking to gently introduce the notion of Python or Django to a manager, you could … Continue reading CIO Python article
