I’m attending PyCon 2009

I've registered for PyCon 2009. I signed up for four tutorials plus the conference; I'm undecided about staying on for the sprints. I'll extend my stay if I hear of a sprint that interests me. I'm paying for this out of my own pocket, but my company is letting me go without using vacation time. … Continue reading I’m attending PyCon 2009

PyCon 2009: Seattle to Chicago

Boy, I'm disappointed in Amtrak's pricing for Seattle to Chicago. Round-trip by plane: $275 + $65 airport shuttles = $340, and 4 hours each way. Round-trip by train: $300 + no cost bus to train station = $300, and 48 hours each way. Amtrak is pricing this trip to attract only those travelers who so … Continue reading PyCon 2009: Seattle to Chicago

Plone sprints at PyCon 2009?

I'm working on my plans for attending PyCon 2009. I don't know whether to budget for the sprints — I'd stay for them if I could contribute to at least one. But, no sprints are listed yet... If you're considering organizing a Plone-related sprint, I'd like to hear from you, even if you're not yet … Continue reading Plone sprints at PyCon 2009?

What to do with iMac 1GB memory modules?

I upgraded my wife's 24" 2.8GHz iMac memory to 4GB. This required replacing the two 1GB DIMMs with two 2GB DIMMs. So. I now have two spare 1GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM modules. What to do with them? A quick perusal of eBay indicates they might fetch $20 each. Maybe. Is it worth the effort to sell … Continue reading What to do with iMac 1GB memory modules?

EMC Retrospect 8.0 for Macintosh: Beta 2

EMC released Beta 2. I'm going to give it a shot this weekend. ——— Update @ 1/25: I tried it. Specifying the media for disk backup sets didn't work, and I aborted after fiddling with it for 15 minutes.

Planet Plone Zookeeper: Almost There!

There's just one small hiccup standing between me and my new blog list duties. Today might be the day! Update @ 1/23: Alex Clark waved his magic wand, and I'm in! I closed three tickets today for new blog listings! Yee haw!

Lining up my car’s odometer digits

Our car is a 1996 BMW 328i. It's the E36 platform. Back on Thanksgiving Day 2008, I realized the odometer would display 98,765 miles within the next few months. To its right is a 4-position trip odometer, and I thought it would be fun to synchronize them so they display a "098765 432.1" sequence. And … Continue reading Lining up my car’s odometer digits

I’m the new Planet Plone zookeeper

Gerry Kirk asked for volunteers to take over as the maintainer of Planet Plone's blog list. I raised my hand, and Gerry quickly said, "Huzzah! We have a winner!" I'm the new zookeeper. It seems like an easy job. And, a way to start contributing (in a teensy-weensy capacity) to the Plone community. Tonight, I have, alas, … Continue reading I’m the new Planet Plone zookeeper
